I remember vividly the last time I visited Taiwan was in December 2011. It was winter then and the temperature was negative. I am quite sensitive to cold environments so this time I decided to go during Autumn. I planned a short 3 day itinerary and departed Singapore on 27th of October.
Having arrived at the Taoyuan International Airport in the evening, I took a train to Taipei city where my hotel was located.
After checking in, I took the metro to the Shilin Night Market. It was fairly near to the Shilin Station so I had zero issues
finding my way there. This is arguably one of the best night markets in the world due to its buzzing atmosphere.
Shilin Night Market offers a variety of activities, ranging from local delicacies to old school carnival games.
It is famous for its Large Fried Chicken Cutlet which many stalls sell along the streets. The most popular store is Hot-Star.
Other interesting snacks include fried sweet potato balls, cartoon-shaped cotton candy and coffin toast bread. To indulge yourself,
you should walk around and taste these Taiwanese delights! (I got a little carried away eating the food, I forgot to take photos.
I'm so sorry!)
Traditionally, night markets have been places of entertainment for families. And until now, the Shilin Night Market still has
game booths. Some might be very familiar to you, like shooting darts at balloons and throwing hoops onto targets. Others may be a new
sight for some, such as catching live fishes. Most booths have prizes displayed to attract customers.
